Virtual Career Day for Data Scientists
Machine Learning, Data Mining or the handling of neural networks – researchers with these types of methodological skills are in great demand. Nearly all research areas are working with ever larger and more complex data sets, which opens up many new career options.
At the Helmholtz Association’s "Helmholtz Virtual Career Day" on September 23rd scientists can look for possible PhD topics, postdoctoral positions or other data-science positions. The fair offers an overview in the following fields: Energy, Earth and Environment, Health, Aeronautics, Space and Transport, Matter, Information. Visitors can virtually navigate to the booths of over 20 exhibitors and engage in conversation with prospective employers.
Who is taking part?
Among the exhibitors are several Helmholtz Centers such as the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Forschungszentrum Jülich and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). The newly founded Helmholtz Imaging Platform (HIP) is also represented that is coordinated by the MDC and other institutes. Partner institutions such as the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) or the Data Science Research Center of the Ben Gurion University of the Negev (DSRC) are also participating.
In keynotes and panels, renowned data scientists will report on their careers in applied data sciences – including Professor Xiaoxiang Zhu, Head of the Earth Observation Data Science Department at DLR. Another keynote address will be given by Professor Uwe Ohler from the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association (MDC). In addition to the Department of Biology, Ohler also has a second appointment in the Department of Computer Science at Humboldt University in Berlin.
