Press Release No. 41 October 07, 2016 Berlin MDC researchers discover new regulatory mechanism of important protein The MDC research team headed by Dr. Oliver Rocks is investigating the mechanisms that control the...
Press Release No. 40 October 06, 2016 Berlin The life cycle of proteins Throughout their lives, proteins have a plethora of different tasks and finally are being disposed...
Science September 16, 2016 Protein quality control in the cell: Waste removal more efficient than expected Proteins perform so many vital tasks that without them, our bodies wouldn't function. In producing these molecules cells make a remarkable number of mistakes: about one third of all newly synthesized proteins are defective. A failure to recognize and eliminate them can lead to severe diseases. A team led by Prof. Thomas Sommer at the MDC has now gained new insights into the complex process of protein quality control in the cell.
Press Release No. 31 August 26, 2016 Berlin Successful recycling: Protein quality control in the cell Proteins perform a wide range of tasks within cells. For everything to run smoothly, the cell must...
Science February 26, 2016 Structure of a hantavirus protein as a promising model for drug design There is no treatment for infection with the dangerous hantavirus. Scientists at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) have now identified the three-dimensional structure of a hantavirus protein that is essential for replication of the virus. They have published their findings in the journal Cell Reports, providing a blueprint for the design of antiviral drugs.

Science July 16, 2015 By Russell Hodge A speed-dating service for proteins Yes, a lot of what they say about proteins is true: they are often promiscuous, and have trouble maintaining long-term attachments... In an experiment or model, two molecules may flirt with each other and look like a couple, but is their interaction really intimate and direct?
Science November 27, 2014 By Russell Hodge Complete RNAi knockdowns of the human or mouse genome – and much more The Small Molecule Screening Unit established by the MDC and FMP now has the capacity to carry out...
